Sunny Sweeney - Trophy, album review

Old-school If-only

Old-school Country performed today: polished, plaintive, pedal-steel - and opening song Pass the Pain sung to a bartender, slide some hurt my way.

Second, Better Bad Idea continues the Country theme of wrong and pain, this more contemporary in its rockiness, but still traditional in so many ways. Nothing Wrong with Texas begins with fiddle and Sweeney's clear-twanged vocal, pedal-steel and harp laying more nostalgically warm sounds about the one stoplight town, where a handshake means what a handshake means: simple truths and realities imagined in a world where this was never really the complete case, even when driving around in a big ol' Pontiac.
