Elvis Costello and The Imposters - Look Now, album review

Inimitable

This is inimitably Elvis Costello – many more reasons, but it is essentially the vocal croon – and on this latest release the two other most noticeable influences seem to be The Beatles [George Martin orchestrations] and Steely Dan, this latter in the wonderfully upbeat and funky track Mr & Mrs Hush. Bacharach on Photographs Can Lie is another, this a pretty piano ballad seeped in that era and style and significant echo. There is more Burt later on with Why Won't Heaven Help Me.

Then there's the damn fine He's Given Me Things.

A fulsome album in so many ways on this first listen.
