Husmo HAV - Ripples, album review

UFOs

This is an evocative jazz album, featuring four players who were students at the Norwegian Academy of Music and are leader/trumpet player Thomas Husmo Litleskare, bassist Stian Andersen, Marte Eberson on piano and synths, and drummer Tore Flatjord

This debut is full of atmospheric soundscapes, for example the sonic string as well as tinkling reverberations and resonances of Light Pollution that segues beautifully into Wakeful. Seed of Doubt has a number of duplicate layered sounds that then break into gorgeous trumpet solo. My favourite is the eight minutes of Galleries; Underworld where bass and percussion underscore and introduce echoes of light trumpet punches, then synth bursts like passing flying saucers, building to orchestral synth and speed-drumming to soothe into a muted trumpet close. Superb.
