Richie Kotzen - Cannibals, album review

Positive Judgement of a Journeyman

Rock guitarist and singer/songwriter Ritchie Kotzen is in many ways a journeyman who consistently puts out accessible AOR albums - and Cannibals is another in this fine lineage. The opening title track best exemplifies the AOR badge, whilst second In an Instant is a sweet R&B track in the Philly/Hall&Oats mode. Third The Enemy has Kotzen airing his falsetto vocal chops, and these opening three set the varied undemanding but pleasant listening experience. Fourth Shake it Off is a funkier rock offering, with some pounding bass and puffing organ, and then Kotzen demonstrating his guitar skills with a quick riff and ending on some excellent shredding. Fifth Come on Free is a return to a soul-infused tune, and I’ll leave it there as a positive reflection on the experienced and attractive eclecticism of this latest album.
