Tyrannosaurus Rex - Prophets Seers & Sages: The Angels of the Ages

Glamorous Folk Psychedelia

Before the glam abbreviation to T-Rex, Mark Bolan's first significant incarnation as Tyrannosaurus Rex provided the music I return to again and again - the folk psychedelia of guitar, percussion, whimsical lyrics, enchanting melodies and the sublime warble of Bolan's singing. Three tracks from this album exemplify what I mean in their simple childlike beauty, heightened by harmony, pace, effects [the reverse playing on Debora] and any combination of these: Deboraarobed, Stacey Grove and Salamanda Palaganda. Put them on a loop and be spun back in time to those days as mystical and mesmerising as the meaningless lyrics. Who cares what wasn't actually being said: it was full of happy, hopeful fun and beauty - and where glamour was in flowers and beads rather than eyeliner.
