John Carter Cash - The Family Secret
Of course it's not fair to compare parent/child or sibling musicians in ascribing qualities - but we all do it. There's plenty of awe when I listen to Johnny Cash, especially the American Recordings, but this son's album is an ordinary offering, though that doesn't mean bad.
I'm just bemused by reviews and/or promotions where, for this album, references to Led Zep, Pink Floyd, Metallica and, oddly, Tori Amos are made [Rolling Stone Magazine]. Perhaps that's the problem: the listener expects too much and doesn't start by judging it on its own merits.
Hey, I'd be chuffed if I played in a band that can rock like this. But its not distinctive as a listen.
