Bob Seger System - Mongrel, album review

Better Late....

Just a little late, I am discovering Bob Seger - more than radio listening - and currently playing his third album Mongrel, released in 1970, which is superb, ranging across riffrock gems like Highway Child to ballads like Big River. The vocal, obviously, is what it is all about: polished gravel. Band, the System, belt put some stompin' jams as in the guitar and organ pulsations of the title track; funky soulful beats and great guitar lead on the punchy Lucifer too. The Zepellin-esque start to Teachin' Blues, and the song itself, powerdrives heavy fun.
