Father and Son
The day of Rock here at the Awe included this
son-as-father-to-the-man rock philosophy where Nigel Dupree, son of Jess James
[see previous post], offers up his refined hard rock album Up To No Good, which sounds like a summation of dad’s daily
routine. Less in the jeans here – though still gritty and thundering – it’s
certainly in the genes where Nigel [now even that sounds genteel by comparison with
the senior outlaw] sings with soul and sass. This too, though different, is a
fine rock album and impressive testament to the Dupree personal rock pedigree.
For sweetness, it is noteworthy that both this and dad’s
album Best of Show were released together
on Father’s Day, 31st July 2012. Ahhh. This was obviously planned,
but an interesting coincidence is that on Nigel’s album, 2nd track Tumbleweed has a clear echo of Spooky
Tooth’s Better By You Better Than Me
riff, and on dad’s album, the 5th track is titled Golden Spookytooth. Nigel and Jesse
James, meet Sherlock Awe.
You rock, Sherlock..
