Lianne La Havas - Blood, album review

Excellent Sophomore Indications

This is an assured sophomore release from La Havas, talent as performer and writer informing the whole, and of course her voice an impressive natural element, none of that contemporary affectation of staccato phrasing and babytalk tones intruding on this kind of quality. The ballad Wonderful presents her singing at its softest yet still graceful prowess, light touches added with delicate harmonising. This is followed with a punchy, horn and chorus accompanying jamboree in Midnight to showcase the other pole with a fuller and gorgeous range on display. It is quite a polished production overall, What You Don’t Do offering some funkier indication.
